Building on the success of its founding year, Nifu Nifa Records made great strides in 2016; more music, more events and more money raised for a deserving charity.
The musical year started well, with a sensational release from Holed Coin entitled ‘Dreaming About Noise’, followed by the popular ‘What a Day’ by Boogie Vice. Long time friend of Nifu Nifa, Violent Romance, produced its usual master-class with ‘Just Enough’, followed by Alex Smott’s ‘You Know’ and ‘Get It Right’ by Sinistar. Ending with a big bang, Nifu Nifa released an 18 track adventure into Brazilian underground electronic with ‘Brazil to Africa’.
Having almost tripled their music sales for 2015, the record label will be hoping for another banner year in 2017. All tracks are of course, still available on Nifu Nifa’s Bandcamp store. Profits from purchases on Bandcamp go directly to the artists and labels selling on the platform, Nifu Nifa passes its profits directly to its chosen charity.
2016’s chosen charity was BornToLearn in Moshi, Tanzania. Established in 2011, Born to Learn offers education to many children in the community of Newlands who don’t have the opportunity to attend public school due to a lack of economic resources. All profit made by Nifu Nifa in 2016, through digital releases, events, and fundraising, was donated to the Born to Learn organisation.
The Nifu Nifa team visited Born to Learn’s school in Tanzania in September to assist the teachers and engage with the students. Alongside the school visit, the team also embarked on a fundraising climb to the top of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Meeting the challenge, NifuNifa was able to generate even more funds for this worthy children’s charity. Born to Learn has used the donation to help build new classrooms, toilets, and showers, as well as developing their own kitchen garden to grow nutritious foods for their students. Nifu Nifa Records is proud to have dedicated all its energy in 2016 to help such a worthy cause and is looking forward to doing it all over again in Nicaragua in 2017.
